BUILDING DETAILS
If you like historic buildings, especially high-rises, your options in Atlanta will be very limited. Healey building located on Forsyth Street right in the heart of Downtown Atlanta is one of those few. Initially built in 1914 this 16-story high-rise was an architectural marvel in its time. In mid 2000’s Healey underwent conversion into condominiums and offered a variety of units for sale.
As you enter the building you will be amazed by the grandeur of the lobby and its domed ceiling. Historical elements can be seen everywhere. However, when you enter the units you will find quite modern interiors. Since this is not your “cookie cutter” building, there are many different floorplans. And we have to say they were thoughtfully crafted. The units are very spacious. And they are also very bright, since they boast large 8-foot windows. Another smart touch is the presence of half-bathrooms in many floorplans. The finishes are not high-end, but they are very tasteful and match very well the ambiance of the units. Views from most of the units are very urban and usually offer outlook on other Downtown high-rises.
When it comes to amenities, in Healey building you will find a 24-hour concierge, fitness center and conference room. There is no swimming pool, but that is understandable considering this building is over a 100 years old. What is also understandable, but unfortunately less acceptable is the lack of assigned parking. Most buildings in Atlanta offer attached parking decks with assigned (and usually deeded) parking spaces. Yes, Healey’s HOA has an arrangement with one of the parking decks nearby where you could park at a discounted rate, but for a lot of people this will be a deal killer.
The bottom line is: we love Healey architecturally! And if you want to live in a beautiful historic building this might be a great option for you. However, in all the other cases, we think you might find better value elsewhere, since parking is a very important factor in Atlanta.
